Start your exploration at Huacheng Square, which is a vast urban park located in the Zhujiang New Town central business district. As you arrive, the first thing you notice is the brilliant Guangzhou skyline. Iconic skyscrapers like the Guangzhou International Finance Centre, the CTF Finance Centre rise majestically, bathed in a myriad of colors from the shimmering lights. The square comes alive in the evening, with water features, light shows, and the shimmering reflections of the city’s skyline in its man-made lakes. Even at night, the square is buzzing with activity. Locals and tourists alike stroll leisurely, couples take romantic walks, children frolic around, and many people sit by the lakeside, soaking in the ambiance. Street performers might grace corners of the square, adding to the lively atmosphere. Directing your gaze across the square, you will appreciate the slim outline of the iconic Canton Tower on the opposite bank of Pearl River.
A short walk from Huacheng Square will lead you to the Guangzhou Library. At night, the contemporary structure of the library, with its artistic design, takes on a unique charm as it’s beautifully lit. Even if you’re not going in for a read, the architecture itself, combined with the soft lighting, is a visual treat. Your next stop is the Guangdong Provincial Museum. Resembling a radiant cube after dark, this edifice introduces you to the rich tapestry of Guangdong’s history, art, and culture. Then move on to the Guangzhou Opera House, a masterpiece designed by the renowned architect Zaha Hadid. At night, this iconic structure resembles a gemstone shimmering by the river, its futuristic design beautifully highlighted.
Proceed to the pier and embark on a Pearl River Night Cruise. Guangzhou is graced by the Pearl River, one of the most important rivers in China, stretching over a length of 2320 km. Aptly named, the Pearl River truly shines at night, illuminating the heart of Guangzhou with the sparkling lights of its skyscrapers and bridges, offering the most romantic views in the city. Enjoy a delightful hour-long cruise where you can admire the night city scenery, including the magnificent bridges spanning the Pearl River, the historic buildings lining its banks, and the mesmerizing lights emanating from landmarks such as the IFC, Canton Theater, Ersha Island, and Canton Tower, among others.
As the cruise draws to an end, your next destination beckons – Beijing Road Pedestrian Street. The nightlife here is vibrant. A bustling commercial street, Beijing Road is illuminated with neon signs, tempting you to explore its many shopping outlets. From high-end boutiques to local streetwear brands, there’s something here for every shopper. Everywhere you turn, the aromas of traditional Cantonese snacks fill the air. Local vendors, some of whom have been mastering their craft for generations, offer a myriad of tantalizing treats. From sizzling oyster omelets to the savory richness of dim sum; from the sweetness of freshly-made mooncakes to the cooling touch of herbal jelly – every flavor tells a story of Guangzhou’s culinary heritage. At the end of Beijing Road, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to discover, hidden within the bustling urban area, a sacred and ancient temple – the Giant Buddha Temple. Under the illumination of the night lights, it stands majestic and resplendent. (Alternative Plan: If you’ve already visited Beijing Road, we can switch to Yongqing Fang or Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street.)
